University of Ghana DAAD In-Country/In-Region MPhil Scholarships for African Students 2022-2023


In collaboration with DAAD and West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), the University of Ghana is inviting applicants for the In-Country/In-Region MPhil Scholarships programme for the academic year 2022-2023.

The scholarship programme aims at fostering strong, internationally oriented higher education systems in Sub-Saharan Africa with the capacity to contribute to sustainable development.

Description of University of Ghana

The University of Ghana was founded in 1948 as the University College of the Gold Coast. Today, it is the country’s premier and largest university. It offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees. The University of Ghana offers a greater variety of technology-related and vocational courses, as well as postgraduate education. It is one of the few institutions on the African continent that offers programmes in nuclear physics and engineering.

Eligible Requirements

  • Eligible Countries: Africa
  • Eligible Course or Subjects: MPhil in Seed Science and Technology.
  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the given criteria:
  • Have completed generally a three-year university degree (Master candidates) with above-average results of Second-Class Upper Division or equivalent.
  • Must clearly show motivation and strong commitment
  • Have a thorough knowledge of the language of instruction
  • Have generally completed their last university degree not more than 6 years ago at the time of application
  • Then must be nationals or permanent residents of an African country
  • Students must have obtained a good first degree, at least a second class lower division in Agriculture, Botany, or related field from a recognized university.
  • Language Requirement: Applicants who have not been instructed in English at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels must have a test score of at least 550 (paper test) or 213 (computer test) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

Value of Scholarship

The DAAD will provide tuition, stipends, and accommodation for a two-year Master of Philosophy.
