Olukayode Ariwoola, a Nigerian lawyer and Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, was born on August 22, 1958, and currently holds the position of Acting Chief Justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He was formerly a Justice of the Nigerian courts of appeal before being appointed to the supreme court of Nigeria’s bench as Justice on November 22, 2011. The Chief Justice of Nigeria swore him in. Following the departure of outgoing Chief Justice Tanko Muhammad on June 27, 2022, he was named substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria and is seeking ratification from the National Assembly.
Early Life & Education
Between 1959 and 1967, Ariwoola attended the Local Authority Demonstration School, Oluwole, in the Iseyin local government region of Oyo State for his elementary education. Ariwoola was born in Iseyin, which is located in Oyo State. After that, he attended Muslim Modern School in the same town from 1968 to 1969. After that, he went on to attend Ansar-Ud-Deen High School in Sarki, Oyo State, where he received his High School diploma.

His legal education began at the University of Ife, now known as Obafemi Awolowo University, in Ile Ife, Osun State. Ariwoola holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from this institution (LLB).
In July of 1981, he was admitted to practice law in Nigeria and enrolled as a solicitor and advocate at the Supreme Court of Nigeria. This took place simultaneously. Ariwoola began his professional life working as a State Counsel on National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the Ministry of Justice in Akure, Ondo State.
He then moved on to work as a Legal Officer in the Ministry of Justice in Oyo State until 1988, when he voluntarily left the State Civil Service to pursue a career in private practice. Between October 1988 and July 1989, he held the position of Counsel in Chambers for Chief Ladosu Ladapo, SAN. In August 1989, he established Olukayode Ariwoola & Co., a firm of Legal Practitioners and Consultants in Oyo town. From this position, he was appointed to the position of Judge in the Oyo State Judiciary in November 1992.
He served as Chairman, Board of Directors, Phonex Motors Ltd – one of Oodua Investment conglomerates between 1988 and 1992. He also served as Chairman, Armed Robbery Tribunal, Oyo State, between May 1993 and September 1996, when he was posted out of the headquarters in Ibadan to Saki High Court. Before his appointment to the Supreme Court, Ariwoola held the Justice of the Court of Appeal position in the Kaduna, Enugu, and Lagos Divisions, respectively.
