Business Career

Manyi’s business career began in the early 1990s, when he worked as a management consultant for various companies. He later founded his own consulting firm, Izanokhanyo Leadership Consulting, which provided management consulting services to a range of clients.

In 2001, Manyi was appointed as the head of the Department of Labour’s Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) unit, where he was responsible for developing and implementing policies to promote economic empowerment for black South Africans.

In 2010, Manyi founded the media and communications company, Lodidox, which later became known as the Progressive Professional Forum (PPF). The PPF is an organization that promotes economic transformation in South Africa by providing a platform for professionals from previously disadvantaged communities to engage with policymakers and business leaders.



Political Career 

Manyi’s political career began in 2011 when he was appointed as the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) CEO. He was later appointed as the head of the Department of Labour in 2017 by former president Jacob Zuma.

Manyi has been a vocal proponent of economic transformation in South Africa and has advocated for policies that promote the participation of previously disadvantaged communities in the country’s economy. He has also been critical of what he perceives as the dominance of white-owned businesses in South Africa’s economy.


Manyi has been at the center of several controversies during his career. In 2017, he was accused of attempting to influence the editorial policy of the Gupta-owned news website, The New Age. Manyi denied the allegations and said that he had no involvement in the editorial decisions of the website.

In 2018, Manyi was also implicated in a corruption scandal involving the Department of Labour during his tenure as its head. Manyi denied the allegations and said that he was confident that he would be cleared of any wrongdoing.
